Thought for the day

No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. If a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as if a manor of thy friend's or of thine own were; any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind; And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.

John Donne (1572-1631), ' Meditation - XVII '

Research Information

I am a first year PhD student currently studying Information Theory and Bayesian Analysis at the Cavendish Laboratory (Physics Department), at Cambridge University. My supervisor is Dr. David Mackay and I am part of the Inferential Sciences Group in the Radio Astronomy department.

Papers and reports that I have produced are accessible from here.

Currently I am trying to work on the analysis of the Belief Network Propagation algorithm when applied to LFSR cipher streams.

Closely related to this topic, and an area that I would like to investigate further, is that of 'Turbo Codes'. You can find out some more information about Turbo codes by looking at any of the Turbo code homepages:

Personal information

Digital versions of some wedding photographs are now available from here. Some photo's from the honeymoon are also available.

I am also a computer office for Christ's College, and so spend more time than I should running after broken down computers. If only they would slow down.

Currently I have set myself the following tasks to do in order of priority:

  1. Start doing some work on my PhD project.
  2. Rebuild the Christ's College Novell server so that it works.
  3. Set up a Web Server for College.
  4. Tidy up this web page.

Other things will be added to this list when I can think of them.

Other notes

Just to begin with some basic contents for this web page I have included the following links.

I am an Australian national, and so have a few pictures stored here to remind me of home. Please feel free to have a look.
