Chaos Tournament 30-31 May ============================ The Chaos tournament at Trent Park was an excellent spirited event, as always, and was notable for the closeness of its games between all the top teams. On Saturday, GB Masters (playing their first and only tournament of 1998) had a hard fight with First Touch for the head of pool C. The game went to sudden death in overtime and was won - with a little help fom Pete Harvey - by First Touch. Next door in pool B, Mild Mannered Janitors displaced the eventual finalists Shag Boys from their top seeding. The subsequent cross-over games were equally close. The Mild Mannered Janitors were tied with GB Masters when the cap went on, and in the First Touch / Shag Boys playoff, Touch made a huge comeback in the cap from 9-3 to 9-all before losing to the Shaggers. This trend continued during Sunday's knockouts. Blue Arse Flies and First Touch were tied at 8-8 in the cap; Touch won. On the adjacent field, Mohawks used an energetic 1-3-3 zone to come from 6-1 down against GB Masters and take the game 9-7. In the First Touch / Mohawks game for 5th/6th, Mohawks again staged a strong comeback but couldn't quite beat Touch. As for the top four, in Sunday's semi-finals, UTT beat Janitors and Shag Boys beat Goldfish. Goldfish then overpowered the Janitors in the 3rd/4th final and demonstrated some entertaining no-look passes and no-look catches (most of which were incomplete). The final was another close game. Shag Boys kept close on the tail of UTT all the way, and looked increasingly strong as UTT's eight able bodied players tired. Danny had been sent off by an "I think I broke your nose, bro" incident which left his face gushing blood like a Tarantino film. In the end, the Shagging Ones never quite broke down the UTT lead. The awards, distributed in the very nice new clubhouse at Trent Park, included magic metal pants for the finalists and spirit winners. Many thanks to Dan, Fi and Jo for an excellent tournament! ---------- 1 UTT 2 shag boys 3 goldfish 4 mild jannered manitors 5 first touch 6 mohawks 7 blue arse flies 8 gb masters 9 mud culture (plate) 10 red 11 pick and miss 12 twin peaks 13 far flung? 14 chaos 15 Kniggets 16 hurricane The prize for theme/concept/gimmick went to mohawks (who wore nice ties) Spirit: first touch
