Here is a rough estimate of the cost of worlds. Very rough! For details, see the worlds site: http://www.ultilinks.com/wucc99/ The player entry fee is divided into two parts; the tournament fee and the accommodation and food fee. The tournament fee shall be a set amount paid by all players in the tournament (this is set at £100). The accommodation and food fee is set according to the type of accommodation and food offered. The team fee is an additional 100 pounds, split between us all. Accommodation looks like it can cost 100 or 300 pounds, depending on your pocket. One of us needs to look into details of accommodation and coordinate the booking of accommodation. Do we want to get accomm together? Does someone want to volunteer to handle this side of things? We also need someone to handle the roster side of things, which involves getting peoples' passport photos and dates of birth and all that. Charlie, I don't think we have quite paid the full deposit, yet, have we? So we should definitely ask the new team members to make a 100 pound deposit each, so we can pay the Worlds. ------ Finally, the get-out clauses: The team can withdraw 8 weeks before the tournament (about June 6th) and gets 80% of the deposit back. If the team remains registered, and individual players pull out, there are also provisions for them to receive partial refunds. ------------ Please will someone, or sometwo, volunteer to handle accommodation and roster registration? Many thanks David PS a few more details: June 7th Team registration closes. No new teams will be added to the event. All teams not having paid appropriate fees will not be included in the tournament. Final date for payment of all player fees is due. A minimum of 12 players per Ultimate team must be registered and paid for. Tournament format, seeding and schedules is determined by WFDF Ultimate Committee. July 21st Final additions to rosters. No further players to be added after this date. All team rosters close. Play starts on Aug 8 and runs to Aug 14. Aug 7 and 15 are arrival and departure days. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- David J.C. MacKay" Dear All, (1) Please could Ian S, Steve S and COlin S let me know asap if you're coming to Shrewsbury with us; hope so! (2) Charlie Mead recommends that we sort out our accommodation booking for worlds as soon as possible. Phil Cooper has volunteered to coordination this side of things. I suggest we talk it over this weekend so Phil can do the necessary the following Monday. Please go the worlds web page to check out the options , before the weekend , so we can have an informed discussion. (3) I have got a booklet with Shrewsbury bed and breakfast info. The field is just next to Shrewsbury railway station, and I understand camping is there. If anyone wants B+B info from me, please contact me; I am planning to reserve a b+b within walking distance of the fields. (4) I am afraid my knee can't stand jumping and sprinting so I will not be able to play properly this weekend. I will come along and serve as cheerleader, and I'll jog through the endzone plays when we practice them. yours David -------------------------------------------------------------------------- David J.C. They said: 1) First game is at 10am, with captains meeting at 9.45. I suggest we should try to be there in very good time so we can warm up together and run through Nolan's plays. Can we aim for 9.30am at the latest? 2) If anyone wants to camp there on the Friday night then they should phone the TD on 01743 270 262 to get directions. Camping is on the fields, but he says it may be a bit tricky to find the way in on Friday night. yours David From owner-gbm@mrao.cam.ac.uk Tue May 18 12:36:45 1999 To: gbm@mrao.cam.ac.uk Subject: shirt colours From: "David J.C. However, since most of us won't have a wide variety of brown shirts, let's also bring white and dark blue shirts. ok? yours David ps Ed, please could you remind me which of the two days you will be playing? MacKay" Hi all, very well played this weekend! For those who didn't make it, we had a team of ten and a half players, and we worked together very well. We beat Superfly, Slipdisc, Twin Peaks, and lost to Chicken Sanchez on Saturday, then on Sunday we beat Gael Force superbly (14-2), scoring smooth upwind and downwind points, then lost to Chevron and to Blue arse flies to finish 4th out of 10 teams. This message is important, so please read the bits that are relevant, and please RESPOND. -------------- Numbers for Worlds -------------- So far, 10 people have paid a deposit for worlds, and another 4 have said they are pretty sure they are in. To go to the worlds we think we need all these 14 people and TWO MORE (at least). We therefore need the following things to happen THIS WEEK: (a) People who didn't come this weekend but who have paid deposits (Colin and Ed) Please RECONFIRM to me that you are definitely in for Worlds. If there is doubt, please let us know. We need to know now, before we put more money into reserving our accommodation. (b) People who have indicated definite commitment (Tim Lloyd, Ian Stebbing, Steve Humberstone, Alessandro) but have not paid a deposit, please send a deposit RIGHT NOW to our treasurer, Phil Cooper, address below: 100 pounds. If our team does not in fact enter, and this is decided before June 7th, your cheques will not be cashed; otherwise, you'll be in on the same footing as the rest of us. [note: the total cost of the tournament will be another 10 pounds each team fee, plus travel, accomm, and food. Accomm may cost something like 110 pounds or 200. We are not sure what options are left.] (c) Anyone else who wants to join our team will still be able to, up till about July 20th, so people who are on the fence (Sam), you are able to delay. However, if too many people stay on the fence, the team will have to fold. We need 16 people by June 7th. (d) We need to recruit at least two more players. We agreed the following jobs: Nolan will contact Steve Humberstone and Chris Manns. Matthew will find out a number for Rob Philips, and Nolan will phone him. Phil C will ask Charlie Mead if he'll be available still, and will find details of accommodation. I will contact Tim Andrews, Ho, and Bud Tilton. ---------------------- Phil Cooper's address: 199 Blackberry Lane, Four Oaks, Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands, B744JJ. ----------------------- (Phone 0121 353 6399) Future events ------------- We are planning a practice in Witney or Cheltenham, with Blue Arse Flies, on 12 or 13 June. details to follow. Cambridge tournament June 19-20. If you have any friends in Cambridge, please arrange to stay with them, or get B+B, as there is no on-field camping. I can take a few people in my house. ------------------- Again, well played everyone -- I was really impressed how well you did. I suggest that we aim to be there by 11am; we can run some drills, then play the Bears at about 12.30. Then drill some more. The pitches are by the sports centre. I will fix a practice with Blue Arse at a later date. By the way, there is a disc golf tournament at Quarry park on 12-13 June. Yours, David
