Strange Blue tournament report: nationals 1997. 26/9/97, swindon For a team photo see http://wol.ra.phy.cam.ac.uk/ultimate/pics/nats97/ We resigned our 12th seeding in the nationals and entered a fun team in the "not the nationals" tournament. The team was Francis, David, Daniel, Jez, John, Dan's friend Bernie and brother Albert, Kate (Saturday), Cads, Pippo and Ceci. (The last three were much-needed pickups.) The rest of our division were: Calzoni (half GB womens), Women in Black, Mud Culture, Sneeekys, G-spot (new team), Bears. We beat WIB 15-8 playing ironman 5 then ironman 6 as our players trickled in. We had a good time using a variety of Os and Ds and learning to play together. We lost 15-6 to Bears. (aka Whiplash) We beat Calzoni 15-10. On Sunday we played G-spots, who took a couple of our players to make up their numbers. We won 15-1. We were really proud to beat Mud Culture 15-6. We lost to Sneeekys by quite a lot, though we were very close to them at half time. We finished up 3rd. 1 Sneeekys 2 Whiplash (spirit) 3 Strange Blue 4 Mud Culture 5 Calzoni 6 Women in Black 7 G-spots --- The nationals were won by shotgun with ease. The Catch 22 / Chevron semi final was an epic close game with Chev taking the lead for a time in the second half, but losing to Catch in the end. Red beat VH on Sat but lost to them on Sunday. Stan have anounced their retirement. 1 Shotgun 2 Catch 3 Druids 4 Chevron 5 VH 6 Red 7 Oxford 8 Stan (spirit) At the 9-16 tournament, First Touch dominated. 9 FT 10 ? blue arse flies 11 ?
