[1] === The underground connection ==== FRIDAYS from Cambridge to Woodmansterne There are fast trains from Cambridge to Kings Cross every 30 minutes and trains from London Victoria to Woodmansterne every 30 minutes, until 1946, after which time the trains are every hour. Here is an example: Cambridge 1754 KX 1846 -------------- (underground is included in your ticket) Victoria 1916 (the number "72" train to Tattenham Corner) Woodmans' 2000 Basically, turn up any time in the afternoon and you can get a connection equivalent to this. SUNDAYS from Woodmans' to Cam' Trains run every hour. From Woodmansterne the trains run at the same minutes past every hour. From KX to Cambridge only roughly so, but there are two trains every hour. Here is an example: Woodmans 1702 London Bridge 1741 (note on Sundays it goes to a different terminus: you can get off at Charing Cross after London Bridge, but London Bridge is probably the best underground connection) ------------------ KX 1815 Cam 1918 [2] alternative stations and better Thameslink connections This is where it gets really exciting! Chris Mills says that another good station (indeed, better, if one is going to Chris's Mum's) is Coulsdon South. So here is information for getting there. Furthermore, I have found yet another way of connecting cross-London, which makes trains even better as a way of getting there! The hot new option is to take the train to Kings Cross, then instead of taking the underground, to transfer to the Kings Cross Thameslink station (other side of the street) and take the train to East Croydon (there are three every hour, destination Brighton); then at East Croydon you can get onto not only all the trains to Woodmansterne but also all the trains to Coulsdon South (of which there's about 3 every hour). Here is a sample: Cambridge 1754 KX 1846 -------------- KXT 1852 East Croydon 1924 -------------- East Croydon 1927 Coulsdon S. 1936 If you want to get on the Coulsdon train at the London terminus, then go to Victoria. ---------------- Return journey on Sunday ---------------- Useful fact: If you get to Purley station (one stop north of Coulsdon South) then you can get all of the trains that go through both Woodmansterne and Coulsdon South. From Coulsdon South trains run once every hour; between East Croydon and Kings Cross Thameslink there are four trains (yes four!) every hour: e.g. Coulsdon S. 1745 East Croydon 1755 ------ East Croydon 1801 KXT 1830 ------ KX 1845 Cam 1949 Now I think that's pretty cool compared with sitting in a traffic jam on the M25 and then dying in a pile-up of bumper to bumper BMWs. :-) Finally, here's an example for going from Woodmansterne via KX Thameslink. Woodmans 1702 East Croydon 1717 ------------------ E. C. 1731 KXT 1800 ------------------ KX 1815 Cam 1918 David
