Trains to Woodmansterne Lurkers tournament Hi all, this weekend's organisers are Phil B and Graham F (hurrah!) so please direct any queries to them. (Graham=gcf20@hermes.cam.ac.uk) This note is to let you know about the quick eco-friendly way to get there. (Note that the alternative of going by car involves a lengthy route round the M25 which can be painfully constipated.) There are several stations close-ish to the tournie, and there are *loads* of ways of getting there (e.g. via London Bridge, London Victoria, etc). What follows is my guess at the best route. 1. Cambridge - Kings Cross (3 trains per hour) 2. Kings Cross Thameslink - East Croydon (4 trains per hour) 3. East Croydon - Purley or Smitham or Woodmansterne (6 trains per hour) At East Croydon you want any train that goes to Purley. Some of the trains that go to Purley continue to Smitham or Woodmansterne, in which case, carry on to there. If not, just get off at Purley. Woodmansterne is about one mile away from the sports ground, and Purley is about 2.5 miles. Here is an example timetable: I suggest to anyone else going by train that we meet in the FRONT carriage of the London train. SATURDAY MORNING: Cam 754 KX 846 KXT 854 EC 924 EC 927 Purley 932 Return ticket to Woodmansterne (weekend awaybreak) is 13.55 with railcard, 20.50 without. I will check later this week whether there are any engineering works on the railways. David
